"I propose a society under law, in which individuals are free to pursue their own lives so long as they respect the equal rights of others." - David Boaz
Why should you vote for Coach Bill Maresh?
I am local and you can trust that I will advocate for what is best for our cities.
Champlin and Coon Rapids families, especially our children, should have parks that are clean and beautiful. Our recreation programs need to be strong and offer our families many opportunities for enrichment. By doing so we will help build relationships with our neighbors and create opportunities to serve one another.
Our communities need to to be safe. We must recognize our first responders and honor the service they provide. As many people run from danger our paramedics, firefighters, and police officers run towards danger to serve, protect and even save lives. I will be committed to ensuring we will have the best first responders.
Our schools need to be continually improving, providing necessary resources for all our children. Continued focus on safety is necessary to provide an atmosphere that is both welcoming and conducive to learning.
These things can all happen while keeping our taxes low. We all pay enough taxes already; the key is in spending our tax dollars appropriately.
As your State Representative, I also advocate for the wonderful state of Minnesota, staying true to the conservative values that I believe are important, such as:
When it comes to the government, most people want the government to spend less money, which in turn means taking less of theirs. The government needs to be limited and give the power back to the individual.
All people should have access to affordable health care, just not at the hands of the government. Health care should be governed by a free market, with no government involvement keeping crony capitalism out of the equation. The market would adjust prices of visits and drugs to what people are willing to pay. Health insurance should be purchased through the market, much like auto insurance.
We should have a thriving, prosperous and innovative economy. This type of economy can only be achieved through a free market capitalist system. The removal of regulations, subsidies and arbitrary values, would allow the “good” products and services to flourish and the “bad” ones to fail.
The second amendment protects the infringement on the right to keep and bear arms. Law abiding citizens have the right to protect themselves, defend their property and defend their liberty.
As a high school teacher since 1989, I am a supporter of necessary reforms in education. We must help ensure that our children will be able to find jobs and compete in the 21st-century economy.
Taxes and regulations are very high in Minnesota and I believe that is a deterrent to business growth. We need to have honest conversations about how we are taxed and regulated and how that may hinder our economic growth. We should have a thriving, prosperous, and innovative economy. This type of economy can only be achieved through a free market capitalist system.
I think everyone deserves access to affordable health care. However, I disagree with the government being the sole place to be insured. People need more options for Health Care and not less. I think our citizens should be able to purchase Health Insurance across state lines and I support Lawsuit Abuse Reform to eliminate junk lawsuits that raise the cost of insurance for all of us.
As much as I support business, I oppose government bailouts of businesses. I want to put an end to crony capitalism. If a business succeeds or fails in the free market, you can’t run to the government to bail them out because then how do you pick and choose whom to help? We shouldn’t be in the business of picking winners and losers.
Supporting the Constitution
As your representative, I would take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. I take that very seriously. I will support the rights of all citizens to exercise their freedom of speech, their freedom of religion, and their right to peaceably assemble. I also strongly support our second amendment rights to keep and bear arms. Law-abiding citizens have the right to protect themselves, defend their property, and defend their liberty.
The Minnesota Constitution requires a “uniform system of public schools,” and as a high school teacher since 1989 I’ve witnessed many changes in school policy and the job market. Our kids need a great education to compete the global 21rst century. I oppose “one size fits all” policies from St. Paul and think we need to empower our school districts to make necessary decisions to unleash the skills of our educators to do the great work they are capable of doing.
As an outsider, I share the frustration of many of you. It seems like it’s harder and harder to get your voice heard. My ambition is to represent the citizens of Champlin and Coon Rapids. I’m not looking for a career. With that in mind, I support term limits for the legislature to help put an end to career politicians.
I am also frustrated with how our legislature operates. I see four months of hearings, and then a race at the end of a session to Hodge-podge agreements together in smoke-filled rooms. I’d like to see several changes. First, I think a piece of legislation should have only one subject. Second, I’d like all negotiations to be in public, not behind closed doors. Finally, no bills should be passed on the last day of session with no hearings. We shouldn’t pass a bill and then find out what’s in it afterwards.
